Vaanmathi is a 1996 Indian Tamil romantic drama film directed by Agathiyan starring Ajith kumar and Swathi in the lead roles. This film portrays hatred that slowly transforms to love between two young people who are from very different financial backgrounds.The film was released on 12 January 1996 and went on to become a commercial success, running for 175 days at the box office. This movie partly based on Jayalalitha and her niece Deepa Jayakumar's story.
