Balachander's films are well known for their portrayal of women as bold personalities and central characters. In a career that spread over 50 years, he had contributed to nearly 100 feature films either as a screenwriter or director.Balachander re-entered the Hindi film industry after Aaina through Ek Duuje Ke Liye in 1981. He gave Rati Agnihotri her debut Hindi film with Ek Duje Ke Liye. On 23 December 2014 he died due to complications from the urinary infection and age-related ailments.
