Nivin Pauly’s Tamil movie Richie gets a new release date

Nivin Pauly starrer Richie has been in the production for a long time now. The movie was supposed to hit screens early this year during the summer holidays but got postponed to unknown reasons. Finally, after overcoming a lot of hurdles the makers have got the censoring done. With a U/A certificate, the movie will be releasing worldwide on December 8.

Richie directed by debutant Gautham Ramachandran is the official remake of acclaimed Kannada film Ulidavaru Kandanthe. The original was directed by Rakshit Shetty, who played the lead role as well. It is a neo-noir crime drama revolving around a mysterious murder.

Nivin Pauly’s film has high expectations as the original was a big success, both critically and commercially. Nivin is reprising Rakshit’s role from the original. He plays the titular role of a tough and fearless local rowdy. From the promos, it looks like a very stylish character that will have enough mass elements to please the actor’s fans. Interestingly, Nivin himself has dubbed in Tamil, which is the first time the actor is dubbing in the language.

Richie also has a strong supporting cast which includes Prakash Raj, Natty, Shraddha Srinath, Lakshmi Priya Chandramoul, Elango Kumaravel, GK Reddy and Naveen Kunjumon in significant roles. B Ajaneesh Loknath, the music director of Ulidavaru Kandanthe, is composing for Richie as well.

The movie is bankrolled by Vinod Shornur and Anand Payyannur. Trident Arts, fresh from the recent success of horror flick Aval, will be distributing the movie in Tamil Nadu.
